Job/Career Resources

Job Search Resources

The following internet sites are just some of the resources for finding work—part-time, summer jobs, or full-time work. Also, remember these other, important ways to search for work:

  • Check out the Classified section of your local newspapers. Many part-time/summer jobs are listed in local newspapers.
  • Prepare a resume—even if you haven't had a "real" job.
  • Don't hesitate to contact employers directly, especially if you want to work in a small business. Teens and the Job Game can give you guidance on how to do this.
  • Network: Talk to friends and their parents about possible job opportunities they may have heard about.
  • Talk to your Guidance Counselor about possible job opportunities or internships.
  • Volunteer work can often be a great way to check out some career options if you can't find a paid job. You are also making a great contribution to your community when you volunteer.

Internships

  • For high school and college students interested in the field of Cybersecurity, and seeking internships:

    Contact: CyberUp at wecyberup.org

This organization places students into one year internships in various cities, with the chance of obtaining a full-time position after the year’s work.

  • Find out as much as you can about the business for which you will interview.
  • Be prepared to ask questions about the job and the company.
  • Dress appropriately, even if you are interviewing in a local retail store or very informal workplace, or for a volunteer job. Remember, no jeans or sneakers!
  • Smile, make eye contact, and be enthusiastic. Employers tend to hire the most friendly and enthusiastic candidates, believing these candidates will be enthusiastic about their work
